Our Mission

At Alta Mira, our mission is to provide hope and healing to individuals and families who are engaged in a battle against substance abuse and addiction. We deliver world class, client centered clinical care in a warm, nurturing environment. Our staff treats each resident individually, learning their stories and history to develop a unique treatment plan that addresses the specific issues in his or her life. We recognize the powerful attraction that addiction can hold, and have a healthy respect for the disease. At the same time, we know that a great team, a comprehensive plan, and a focused program can create a life in recovery that prevails and flourishes.

Our Philosophy

At Alta Mira, we have developed a treatment program that is based on a set of fundamental core beliefs.

* We treat Alta Mira residents with respect and empathy.

* We provide honest and direct feedback to residents, but do so in a caring and
non-judgmental way.

* We believe that family involvement is one of the most important factors in a successful treatment experience and long-term success in recovery. We include the family in our evaluation, treatment and discharge planning.

* We recognize that 12 Step programs are not for everyone, so while we offer regular access to Alcoholics Anonymous & Narcotics Anonymous meetings, we also introduce residents to other recovery groups such as SMART Recovery and Life Ring.

* We treat our residents wherever they are on the continuum of abuse, because we know that everyone who uses is not an addict. We believe it is important to treat substance abusers as comprehensively as those that have crossed the line into addiction.

How We're Different

Our recovery model is both comprehensive and unique when compared to most other treatment programs across the country and world. We’ve listed below a few of the ways where we think our program stands out among others.

* We offer residents a minimum of three individual therapy sessions, several process groups and multiple educational seminars every week.
* We provide treatment seven days per week, not just Monday through Friday.

* Most of our accommodations are single rooms with private or semi-private bathrooms.

* We offer an intensive orientation period, which fully prepares residents to participate in their treatment experience and to get the most out of each day in the program.

* We provide a physical examination and psychological testing for all of our residents, based on the belief that you can’t treat the problem if you don’t know what the problem is.

* We include the family and referral source in our evaluation, treatment and discharge planning. We believe that outside support is crucial for long term recovery.

* We have developed specific clinical exercises in the form of The Alta Mira Way, Client Workbook”. These exercises move clients through various stages of awareness and prepare them for long term success in recovery.

* We offer comprehensive discharge planning and free lifetime aftercare. Residents who successfully complete treatment are encouraged to return to the program four times a year for free treatment "tune-ups."

* We understand and appreciate the inherently loving bond that many of us have with animals, so we provide pet therapy, equine assisted therapy, and under certain conditions, may allow clients to bring their pets to treatment.
