Description:

Family and Youth Alternatives (FYA) provides substance abuse treatment for youth on probation, attending juvenile drug court, and other youth from the community. Our services are primarily covered by medical funding and minor consent medical. FYA also accepts clients from Dependency Court (CPS/foster care). FYA is an active participant in the Juvenile Drug Court as well as in community based organizations such as the Focus Forward Foundation and Juvenile Justice Managers Collaboration that are planning for the healthy future of Fresno's youth.

The program was established as an adolescent outpatient substance abuse program in 2003. It serves adolescents from 14 to 18 years old. The services at FYA currently include:

1. Juvenile Drug Court- Adolescents are provided one year of outpatient substance abuse treatment at FYA in collaboration with probation and the juvenile courts. Adolescents in juvenile drug court attend treatment groups, support groups and family groups and report their progress as well as celebrate their success in court with judges assigned to juvenile drug court. Adolescents who successfully complete juvenile drug court have their sentences dropped.

2. Post Release Out Patient Services (PROPS) - Following an adolescent’s releases from custody they attend substance abuse post release aftercare services for an additional six months. Upon successful completion of PROPS, adolescents are removed from probation.

3. Outpatient drug free (ODF) adolescents are referred from the community to attend substance abuse education and treatment.
