Description:
PRIDE (Probationers Recovering Through Intervention Drug Education) is a partnership between the Probation Office and Mental Health Systems treatment staff. Treatment is provided on an outpatient basis for individuals who have a history of drug/alcohol addiction and a history of criminal activity. If it can be shown that a person's criminal behavior is caused by substance abuse, then probation officers may make a recommendation that the individual receive treatment at PRIDE. Usually the clients are considered at high risk for returning to active drug use.
Excluded are participants in SB38 (Drinking Drivers Program), illegal aliens, federal probationers, Transients, chronic mental illness and career criminals with violent histories. Treatment includes as much as five group therapies a week, individual sessions, three self-help meetings, and/or 12 Step weekly meetings and regular court appearances to be determined by probation officers. Sanctions are decided by a participant's probation officer with treatment consideration. The probation staff conducts drug testing. Two on site probation officers enforce rules and sanctions making PRIDE participants accountable for their actions while receiving treatment.
There are formal graduation ceremonies to honor those that complete treatment successfully. Graduation requirements: four months drug and alcohol free, 108 to 117 self-help meetings, full-time schedule before the end of treatment (full-time job or full-time school or a combination of the two), graduation review with probation officers and PRIDE staff.
After care and self-help is mandatory to participants to help with follow up after treatment completion. Often alumni are offered the opportunity to give back, and help new PRIDE arrivals.
